PONTIFE D'AVIGNON : CLÉMENT V ( 1305 - 1314) LE PREMIER PAPE A AVIGNON ( FIRST POPE OF AVIGNON)

      Premier pape d’Avignon. 

À Pessac, Bertrand de Got en tant qu’archevêque de Bordeaux, était propriétaire d’une vigne qui depuis est devenue le Château Pape Clément. Nommé pape, il quitta Bordeaux à la fin du mois d'août 1305 pour se faire sacrer à Lyon. Il s'installe à Avignon au couvent des dominicains, au mois de mars 1309. Il demeurera ensuite à Carpentras, Caromb, Monteux et à Malaucène, près de la fontaine du Groseau, où il fit planter le premier vignoble pontifical. Il mourut à Roquemaure, le 20 avril 1314 en retournant en Aquitaine, après avoir ingurgité un plat d'émeraudes pilées dans du vin sensé le guérir....

Bertrand de Got, first Pope of Avignon and archbishop of Bordeaux, was the owner in Pessac, of a vine which has since become the “Château Pape Clément”. Once appointed Pope in 1305, he moved to the Dominican convent of Avignon in March 1309. He resided in Carpentras, Caromb Monteux and Malaucène, near the Fountain of Groseau where he had the first papal vineyard planted. He died in Roquemaure on April 20, 1314.
